Frequently asked questions
What are Tesla certificates?
TLS security certificates that Tesla issues to every car at the factory. They sign the connection between the car and Tesla servers. Without valid certificates — no app connection, no Supercharger trust, no OTA updates.
How long do Tesla certificates live?
Exactly 2 years from the car's build date. During the last 100 days before expiry the car tries to renew them over the network. If it is online (LTE or Wi-Fi) during that window — the renewal happens automatically and the certificates are extended for another 2 years.
What happens if certificates expire?
The car loses its link with Tesla: the app stops seeing the car, navigation can't fetch traffic, OTA updates stop. The car still drives but acts like an ordinary offline vehicle. Restoring the certificates requires a Tesla service center, which doesn't officially operate in Belarus.
What if the car was powered off during the renewal window?
If the 12 V battery was disconnected during the 100-day pre-expiry window — renewal may have failed. Use the calculator above to see the issue cycle and your miss-risk. If the certificates are still active — keep the car online (LTE or Wi-Fi) for a couple of days; it will retry on its own.
Can I renew certificates manually?
Not without Tesla service intervention. Some Belarusian shops can route the job through intermediaries abroad without shipping the car out of the country — pricing starts around $1500 and goes up from there.
