Every Tesla has one owner and one Tesla Account. While the car is still on someone else's account, you get no remote control, no Phone Key and no in-app purchases, and the previous owner keeps access to the car. This guide covers the whole cycle as of October 2026: creating an account (including from countries that are not on Tesla's region list, such as Belarus and Ukraine), adding a used Tesla to the app, and transferring ownership when you sell. It is based on Tesla's official support pages plus dated cases from the TESLA Belarus owners' chat, a community that does all of this without a local Tesla store, service center or Supercharger (Belarus and Ukraine are absent from Tesla's Find Us list as of 20.10.2026).
In short
- Belarus, Ukraine and Russia are not on the region list when you create an account (checked 20.10.2026). Pick any region, but use the same one for every driver of the same car.
- The car's region is set by the address you enter when you add the car to the app. It is not the same thing as the account region.
- Since 1 September 2026 Tesla asks for documents every time a car is linked to an account, even when the seller transfers it to the buyer directly.
- Document review: up to 48 hours officially, 3–5 days in owners' experience, occasionally up to two weeks.
- Sellers: Factory Reset first, then Remove or Transfer Ownership, with a key card in your pocket the whole time.
- Premium Connectivity and paid subscriptions do not move to the new owner.
Creating a Tesla account when your country is not on the list
Getting the Tesla app
iPhone. The Tesla app has never been in the Belarusian App Store (#168903); it is in the Ukrainian one (checked 20.10.2026). The method owners use: a separate Apple Account set to a country where Tesla publishes the app, signed in only under Media & Purchases. Download Tesla, then switch back to your main Apple Account. The app stays on the phone, and iCloud and the main account's subscriptions are untouched (#182230, #168903). App updates sometimes require switching to that Apple Account again (#264847). Changing the country of your main Apple Account is harder: Apple asks you to cancel subscriptions and spend the remaining balance, and may require a payment method from the new country. A Belarusian Priorbank card did not work for this (#264824).
Android. With Google Play set to Belarus the Tesla app does not show up, and switching the region to Poland did not help one owner (#166906). The official route is a Google account whose Play country has the app. Google only lets you change the Play country while you are physically in that country with a local payment method, and no more than once every 90 days. Many owners install an APK from third-party sites. We do not recommend that: the app works as your car key and gets Bluetooth and location access, and nobody has checked an unofficial file.
Sign-up: region, name, email
You can create the account at tesla.com (Sign In, then Create Account) or in the app. Step 1 of 3 asks for Region, Language, First Name and Last Name; email and password come next.
- Region. The list has about 60 countries: Polska, Lietuva, Latvija, Eesti, Deutschland, United Kingdom, Canada, United States and others. Belarus, Ukraine and Russia are not there (checked 20.10.2026). The Other Europe and Belarus options disappeared during 2025 (#228426, #253334, #470284).
- Which one to pick. The account region barely matters: it sets the interface language and currency and decides which other accounts can be added as drivers. Owners usually pick United Kingdom (English by default) or Poland (#232891, #254780). If you plan to pay for Premium through the Polish region, choose Polska with a real Polish address straight away; the scheme is in our Premium Connectivity article. One rule is mandatory: every driver of the same car needs an account in the same country, otherwise the driver invitation fails (#485739, #488241, #43555).
- First and last name in Latin letters, exactly as in your driver's license and vehicle registration. When you add a car, Tesla checks the documents against the account, and a name mismatch is a common reason for rejection (#389589).
- Email you can reliably access: sign-in codes and the codes for transferring or removing a car go there.
- Security. Verify your email and turn on multi-factor authentication in the account's security settings right away. In 2025 Tesla itself asked owners to do this, and accounts without a verified email and MFA got stuck at sign-in (#221614, #221642). Save the MFA backup passcodes: in June 2026 the website asked for an authenticator code on an account where MFA was shown as off (#454234, #454306).
The account region and the car's region are different things (#451659). The car's region is fixed by the address you enter when you add it, and it changes only if you remove the car and add it again. The mechanics are in the section “The mechanics: how a car's region changes” of the Premium Connectivity article.
If you are in Ukraine. Ukraine is not on the account region list either, while the app is in the Ukrainian App Store (both checked 20.10.2026). The cases in this article come from the Belarusian chat; our sources have no verified experience with Ukrainian registration documents. The general rule is the same: it is safest when the country of the car's address matches the country that issued the registration certificate (#366704).
Common sign-up and sign-in problems
- Picked the “wrong” region. In the past the account region could not be fully changed even through support, and owners simply created a new account and moved the car (#131982). In 2026 you change it under Account Settings on the website; it takes a few hours to apply and does not affect a car that is already added (details in the Premium article).
- The code does not arrive. Check spam. Resending is limited: after a few attempts the site reports a limit (#361010). In December 2025 one owner's codes never reached a Yandex mailbox, while others receive them there normally (#360993, #360994).
- Everyone is affected at once. On 2 July 2025 some owners lost their Phone Key, and the profile showed an address like [email protected] instead of their email. The same day the emails started coming back: it was a Tesla-side incident (#273650, #273881). On days like that, do not delete or recreate anything.
- You want a new account on your old email. First change the email of the old account to a temporary one, then create the new account on the freed address and transfer the car there (#451687).
Bought a used Tesla: how to add it to the app
There are two routes: the seller transfers the car to your account, or you claim ownership without the seller. Since September 2026 both need documents.
Route 1: the seller transfers the car to your account
The fastest route; agree on it before you pay. In the app the seller opens the menu, then My Products, the car, Remove or Transfer Ownership, answers Yes to “Sold already”, chooses an individual (private person), enters your first name, last name and the email of your Tesla Account, and confirms with a code from their own email (#73475). Until September 2026 the car showed up in the buyer's account within seconds and without any documents (#83925).
Since 1 September 2026 the car is no longer added automatically after the seller confirms. The new owner gets an email and has 24 hours to upload a document (personal ID, vehicle registration or bill of sale); Tesla reviews it and adds the car manually. Miss the 24 hours and the car goes into a “no verified owner” status, and the transfer has to start over as an ownership claim (#504149). Documents are required even when you move a car between two of your own accounts (#502878).
If the seller picks Third party instead of an individual, the car simply leaves their account and is not linked to anyone. You then add it yourself through route 2 (#83921).
Route 2: claiming ownership without the seller
Use it when the seller is out of reach: an auction car from the US, a dealer or reseller, a previous owner who does not respond. Tesla asks you to be next to the car, with Wi-Fi and the latest version of the app.
- In the app: menu, My Products, Add Product. If you already have another car in the app, tap its name at the top left, then Add Product.
- Enter the VIN and owner details and upload the documents.
- Prove you have the car: the app asks you to rename it to a given name. You change the vehicle name on the touchscreen under Software, not the driver profile name (#474728, #474730).
- Wait for an email. Tesla notifies the previous owner (#274926), and if they do not respond, reviews the claim itself and releases the car (#164740). In September 2026 an owner got the reply “we cannot reach the previous owner, we will verify it ourselves”, and the car was added shortly after (#503151).
If you get a rejection, fix the reason and submit again. Rejections usually arrive within the same 3–5 days (#474726).
Which documents are accepted (2026)
Tesla's official list: one form of personal ID (driver's license or passport) and one proof of ownership (registration, temporary registration, title or bill of sale). If a business owns the car, a business document is also required.
What owners in Belarus have seen:
- The safe pair is a driver's license and a registration certificate in the same person's name (#488252). Sharp photos, both sides of each document.
- In September 2026 an invoice and customs papers were rejected, while the registration certificate was accepted (#503151). Even earlier, customs papers only worked if the previous owner had already removed the car from their account (#76970).
- The first and last name must match across the license, the registration and the account. A car registered to a wife, submitted with her registration and her husband's license to his account, was rejected. The advice in the chat: the account in the registered owner's name, everyone else added as drivers (#389589, #389597).
- A car whose registration lists a company as the owner was not added to a personal account (#321450). For a business, Tesla asks for a business document.
- It is safest when the country of the car's address matches the country of the registration certificate. In December 2025 a claim was rejected with “the address does not match the documents”; with a Belarusian address the car was added almost immediately (#366719, #366704). Belarus can usually be selected in the car's address, based on July to September 2026 cases (#470240, #488247, #503164), although in July 2026 one owner did not find Belarus in the list when filing an ownership claim (#470258).
- A Belarusian registration under another region is a lottery. In August 2026 a claim for the GB region was rejected with a reference to sanctions (#488229), while in October cars with Belarusian documents passed manual review for the Polish region with a real Polish address. Details are in the Premium article.
- Never submit edited or someone else's documents. Since September 2026 Tesla reviews them manually, and forging documents is a criminal offence.
With an address in Belarus the car works on Standard Connectivity, and purchases in Upgrades are not available for the BY region (#73475, #442710).
How long it takes
- Officially: up to 48 hours.
- In September 2026 cases: 3–5 days (#503165); one owner on the Polish region waited two weeks (#503166).
- Earlier, if the previous owner had already removed the car, linking took minutes (#183804, #476256). Since September 2026 documents are always checked (#502741).
- During the review the key card opens the car. You can charge anywhere except Superchargers: at home, at Destination chargers and at third-party stations.
If the previous owner did not remove the car or their profile
Signs: the previous owner's profile and name are still in the car, their settings come back whenever the car goes online (#426667), and the owner profile cannot be deleted until the car is released from their account (#426668). All that time the previous owner keeps access to the car through the app (#4455).
What to do:
- Find the previous owner and ask them to remove the car in the app or confirm Tesla's email. It beats any waiting: in 2025 a buyer waited four days for the registration check, and the moment the previous owner released the car, the email arrived (#302255, #13700).
- No contact: file an ownership claim (route 2) with the registration in your name. Tesla will contact the previous owner and decide on its own if there is no answer.
- Buy nothing in Upgrades while the car sits on someone else's account. The payment goes to the previous owner's card and the purchase stays on their account; owners in the chat have “accidentally” started Premium and FSD subscriptions this way (#179130).
- No Factory Reset yet: the car asks for the username and password of the account it is linked to (Tesla owner's manual).
- After the transfer the previous owner's profiles, Bluetooth devices and navigation history are cleared when the car leaves their account. Create your own profile and set everything again: mirrors, seat, security, Autopilot (#329469). The previous owner's keys are removed separately, see the keys section below.
Special cases:
- Valet Mode, glovebox PIN or PIN to Drive with an unknown code. The car asks for the credentials of the account it is linked to, which means the previous owner's (#7761), and without internet in the car even that does not work (#94406). Officially, if you do not know the PIN, only Tesla Customer Support can help.
- Tesla from China. Chinese cars use their own app and a Chinese account. If the seller did not hand it over, your options are Chinese support or a transfer arranged by whoever imported the car (#290606, #321634). Do not remove a Chinese car from the app: you will not be able to add it back (#451688).
- The car is “stuck”: it left the old account and never appeared on the new one (#463462). Contact support through the app and keep the key card with you.
Selling a Tesla: removing yourself and transferring ownership
The order from Tesla's owner's manual:
- You are next to the car, with Wi-Fi access and an up-to-date app.
- Factory Reset on the touchscreen: Controls, Service, Factory Reset. The car asks for your Tesla Account username and password. Once the car is removed from your account, a reset is no longer possible.
- Transfer in the app: menu, My Products, the car, Remove or Transfer Ownership, “Sold already”: Yes, individual, the buyer's first name, last name and email, then the code from your email. If the buyer is unknown or a reseller takes the car, choose Third party, and the buyer will claim the car with documents.
- Keys: hand over all key cards and fobs, and delete your phone from the key list (Controls, Locks).
- Warn the buyer that since September 2026 they will have 24 hours after your confirmation to upload documents (#504149). If the registration is not in their name yet, Tesla's list also accepts a bill of sale.
What you lose when you remove the car (official): all paid subscriptions for it end, and account benefits are lost for good. Premium Connectivity does not pass to the buyer; a new account gets a month at most (#476207, #276134). In owners' experience one-time purchases such as Acceleration Boost stay with the car (#73475), but Tesla warns that some features may not transfer.
Two seller mistakes:
- Removed the car with the key card in the glovebox. June 2026: an owner moved the car to his second account, the confirmation link never arrived, the car ended up on no account at all, Phone Key was gone, the second card turned out not to be paired, and the working card was locked inside the car. An Apple Watch the car had not yet forgotten opened it (#463519, #463573, #463616).
- Did not remove it at all. The buyer has no app until Tesla processes their claim, you keep getting emails about it (#274926), and possibly someone else's purchases on your card.
Keys after a change of owner
Full details are in the Tesla keys article. What matters for a change of owner:
- Delete every key that is not yours: up to 19 cards, phones and fobs can be paired, and while they are on the list the previous owner has physical access.
- A new key, card or phone, can only be added after confirming with a working key card. If there are no cards at all, the app will not help even after the car is on your account; the key has to be paired at a service shop (#274022).
- After the car is removed from an account, Phone Key stops working, while the key card and an Apple Watch keep opening the car (#450629).
- If the module that handles keys was replaced with a non-original one, the phone may never pair: the app sees the car but works like guest mode (#500885, #500894).
Premium Connectivity and region when the account changes
Only what matters for a change of owner:
- The car's region is set by the address when it is added; the account region is separate (#451659).
- Premium does not move to the new owner with the car (#476207, #276134).
- The BY region has no purchases; Premium is only available as a paid plan through a region where Tesla sells.
Prices, paying with Belarusian cards and a step-by-step move to the Polish region are in the Premium Connectivity article.
The app does not see the car after the transfer
- The car is on the account on the website but not in the app. Sign out of the app and back in, check which email you are signed in with (#361527), and update the app. On Android, an APK from a third-party site can turn out to be the Chinese build: it signs in to a Chinese Tesla account and does not show the car (#427894). The only official source is Google Play.
- “Vehicle already paired”. The old account has not released the car yet; try again in an hour or two.
- The car never comes online. That is not an account problem: sleep, modem, certificates. On US Model S/X with expired certificates the app does not work. Step-by-step diagnosis is in the “app can't see the car” checklist; certificates are covered in a separate article and the risk calculator.
Experience from the TESLA Belarus community
Linking a car to an account comes up in the chat almost every week (#60657). A few telling cases:
- September 2026. Invoice and customs papers: rejected as “documents not suitable”. The owner received the registration certificate and uploaded it; Tesla replied that it could not reach the previous owner and would verify on its own, and a few days later the car was added to the existing account (#503151).
- August 2026. A Belarusian ID card and registration for the GB region: rejected with a reference to sanctions (#488229).
- Summer 2026. An owner with Kazakh documents was rejected three times; on the fourth try he photographed the documents on top of a printed note saying no other documents exist in his country, and the car was added (#503217).
- June 2026. A transfer between one's own accounts with no confirmation link: the car on nobody's account, the working key card in the glovebox (#463519).
- December 2025. Rejected because “the address does not match the documents”; after switching to a Belarusian address the car was added almost immediately (#366719).
- July 2025. Five days of silence on a claim filed without the previous owner; in the end the car was transferred with the previous owner's help (#276146).

Full list →Customs clearance of an EV in Belarus in 2026: the quota is gone, counting the 15% and VAT
On 5 September 2026 the State Customs Committee announced that the duty free import quota for electric cars brought in by individuals is exhausted. Declaring a car now means paying a 15% import duty on its value. The VAT exemption survives only for cars no more than five years old from the build date; anything older picks up another 20% on top. What makes up the total, what the recycling fee and the valuation cost, and whether it is worth waiting for an additional EAEU quota.
Tesla Premium Connectivity in Belarus: what it is and how to activate it in 2026
As of October 2026 there is no free Premium Connectivity left: on 30.09.2026 Tesla shut down the “forever” Latvian subscription, and since early September Tesla demands a vehicle registration certificate and a driver's license every single time a car is linked to an account. The only working route is a paid subscription through a region where Tesla sells: Canada 13.99 CAD/mo, USA $9.99, Poland 35 zł, EU and Latvia €9.99. In October 2026 the chat described a working scheme for moving a car to the Polish region with genuine Belarusian documents: 5 of 5 cars passed Tesla's manual review. Payments from Belarus go through BSB cards.
Model 3/Y: rear upper control arm bushings, specs, replacement options, who does it in Belarus
Rear upper arms on M3/Y 'eat' bushings at 80–120 thousand km: a knock appears on small bumps, the car wanders on ruts. Replace the arm as an assembly or press in Powerflex/SuperPro polyurethane. Both options work.
Model S/X 60/70/75: low pack voltage and limits at 50 kW/125 A chargers
Due to the lower pack voltage (84s: nominal ~300–320 V, ~280–300 V at low SoC), power on 125 A DC chargers is limited to ~35–40 kW. This is normal.
